Frequently Asked Questions
| A: | Chiropractic is a unique form of health care which stresses an overall body wellness. The focus of chiropractic is to locate and help correct spinal problems that are disrupting the controlling nerve impulses between the brain and every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. Spinal bones which have lost their normal motion are restored by a series of carefully directed spinal adjustments. Because the adjustments help restore the function of the nervous system, they can have a profound effect to your overall health without drugs or surgery. |
| A: | Chiropractic Care - We use very specific gentle adjustmetns that increase motion in spinal joints. When motion increases, pain will decrease. Nutritional Supplements - We reccomend and carry the best we can find. Some examples are Liquid Health, Water OZ and Juice Plus. We also carry Arbonne Swiss Skin care and nutritional supplements. Massage Therapy - Kathy is trained in Neuromuscular massage and Active Release Technique. Renee also does Neuromuscular massage and Rossiter Physiotherapy - Electrical stimulation, Ultrasound, Cool Laser Therapy, Ergowave spinolater. |
| A: | Absolutely! Here are some findings from studies done by chiropractors and orthopedic surgeons… Harvard Medical School Health Letter - September, 1990 “Chiropractic treatment of low back pain, which affects 75 million Americans, is superior to the standard regimen administered by medical doctors”, a major British study has concluded. “Chiropractic almost certainly confers worthwhile long-term benefits in comparison with hospital outpatient management,” said Dr. T.W. Meade, a British medical doctor who headed the study conducted at eleven hospitals and chiropractic clinics. Federal Medical Study Endorses Chiropractic For Back Pain – US Agency For Health Care Federal Medical Study Policy and Research December 8, 1994 – A panel of 23 doctors headed by Dr. Stanley Bigos, M.D., professor of Orthopedic Surgery, studied 3900 medical articles on low back pain. Their conclusion was that “chiropractor’s manipulation of the spine was more helpful than any of the following: traction, massage, biofeedback, acupuncture, injection of steroids in to the spine, back corsets and ultrasound.” Surgery was beneficial in only 1 out of 100 cases! |
| A: | Chiropractors must receive a minimum of 6-7 years of college education. The basic science and clinical coursework includes anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, physical and laboratory diagnostics, radiology, physiology, pathology, nutrition, biomechanics, and spinal manipulation techniques. Chiropractic education is similar to medical education except the focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of musculo-skeletal and nervous system disorders rather than drugs or surgery. |
| A: | A chiropractic adjustment is the art of applying a precise force in a specific direction to a joint that is fixated and not moving properly, which may be irritating your nervous system. This restores motion to the joint, helping it gradually return to a more normal position and motion. The result of this safe and natural procedure is improved spinal function, improved nervous system function, and improved health. |
| A: | Definitely not. Chiropractic adjustments are applied to a specific spinal segment with a specific force in a specific direction. "Self-adjusting" yourself is detrimental, often making an already unstable area of the spine even more unstable or hypermobile. Chiropractic training takes many years to complete; adjusting the spine is not for the inexperienced. |
| A: | Chiropractic is a conservative approach to health that avoids invasive surgery or drugs with side effects. Chiropractic care is safer than back surgery, muscle relaxers, and even aspirin. A comprehensive history and examination shows the exact areas of the spine that may be causing joint fixation or nerve irritation. This also allows the doctor to determine the best course of care for each individual patient and condition. |
| A: | Chiropractic is safe for all ages. Many childhood activities have a significant impact on the spine. Learning to walk or ride a bicycle, playing sports and even the birth process can cause spinal problems. Regular spinal check ups can help identify these problems and help avoid any more problems seen later in adults. As we age and reach the later years of life the spine can go through degenerative changes. The benefits of chiropractic care can also be seen as many patients have reported relief of arthritic symptoms and other chronic ailments often associated with the aging process. The adjusting techniques are modified depending on the age of the patient in order to give maximum comfort and results. |
